Face to Face with Katherine's Ghost -

We seem to have a ghost in our apartment.
We live in Oceanside, California. We moved in last February and have felt a ghostly presence for the past nine months. It's a woman, she is young, and I think that her name is Katherine. For some inexplicable reason, I sense that she wants us to help her in some way.
I'm getting teary-eyed just writing about her.
We first saw Katherine hovering above us late one night in the small hallway that spans the distance between our only bedroom and the bathroom.
Our cats' hair stood on end when Katherine materialized that first time.
My husband saw it too. What we saw that night was like a white, billowing form that shot straight up through the ceiling. At first, we thought that someone had died, possibly downstairs from us. We both knew that it was a spirit -- there was just no question about what we both saw.
Once I felt it touch the back of my leg in the shower and I thought it was my husband.
My husband has seen it pass by on several occasions out of the corner of his eye, and each time this has occurred he thought it was me going into the kitchen, but every time this happened to him, I was in the bedroom fast asleep.
We saw this same strange form hovering above us on a couple other occasions after that first incident, and then about two months ago the phenomenon abruptly ended.
At least our cats started acting normal again, the poor dears.
Then on Sunday morning, Feb. 25th, 2001, Katherine came back into our lives. My husband saw her first, and again he thought it was me walking from the hallway into the kitchen when he first saw the spectre.
But when he turned to take a closer look, it began to move faster, out and away from him. But he could see the sway of the ghost's hips, which is why he thought it was me.
But that is not the reason I know it's a woman.
The incident that convinced me occurred later that same evening. After seeing Katherine's ghost that night, my husband came into the bedroom to retire for the evening. While he readied himself for bed, his movements woke me up, and I kept thinking I heard things moving in the kitchen while he told me about his encounter with the female form in the hallway.
I got up twice from the bed to look in the kitchen, and then once more to look in the bathroom. The last time I looked at the clock it was 2:09 a.m. For some odd reason I groggily forced my eyes wide open and began to look around the room, hoping to see my cat and --
That was when I saw Katherine's ghost about a foot from my face.
We were literally face to face. I saw only her face -- it was beautiful -- but I screamed just the same.
I was so startled and scared beyond words.
Thinking I was still asleep and having a nightmare, I looked at the clock -- it was 2:19 a.m. Then I knew I had not been dreaming. I knew I was awake, still very awake!
My cries awakened my husband, and I told him about what had just happened, and he said he had the same kind of thing happen to him only a few minutes earlier after he had turned off the light. He felt someone staring at him, but he didn't want to open his eyes!
I truly believe that I scared Katherine too when I yelled. I don't think she wanted to scare me. She disappeared. She was young, around 16 to 19 years old, with medium short hair curled underneath at the ends, very white skin, and very bright green eyes. Her eyes are what struck me the hardest -- they were very, very deep and luminous.
The thing is, other than that first time -- I have never been scared by Katherine's presence.
In fact, I want to see her again.
What does she want? Why can't she leave? How did she die?
Maybe she is my guide...?
Sometimes I still feel her presence, at other times I do not. Why am I not afraid?
Does she want me?
Last night I was hoping to see her again, but she was not there. I have felt the ghost of my dead cousin before, with whom I was very close indeed. When my cousin died, I felt her, and it scared me.
I cannot shake the feeling that I'm supposed to help Katherine in some way.
The next morning my husband asked me what we should call our ghost, and I just blurted out without even thinking: "Katherine!"
